I know you're going to hate hearing this but "they all do that." I have a '99 M3 and my brother an M Coupe, they both act up in the morning especially when you first put it in gear, it'll hesitate momentarily. It has something to do with the polution control on cold start and BMW apparently have been working on the problem through a program change.

As for motor oil, it also depends on where you live and how you use the car. The BMW synthetic in 5W-40 weight is fine for all around driving. If you track the car or autocross it especially in warmer weather, you'll want to consider the Mobil 1 15W-50 oil during the summer. I still have the BMW synthoil for the next school in three weeks but for the July school, I'm going to run Mobil 1 because it will get very warm on the track in July.
