Yes...I was wrong to refer to it as the width but it's not also referred to as size like you said...they're tire dimensions....anyway...my comparison was based on the same tire height and size but different width.

: First of all 235/40 18 isn't the width, it's the tire size. Out of the two sizes that you mentioned, I'd go with the 235/40's over the 245/40 since it's closer to the OEM tire size.

: If you really want 245's (if they'll fit) you should probably go with a 35 series although if you do you'll want to avoid every pot hole in your path.
: The thing to remember is that the first number in the size is the width in mm. Divide by 25.4 to get inches.
