You say nitrous, if do it gotta be N2O - Nitrous Oxide (aka laughing gas). NO2 is Nitrogen Dioxide which I think is the case here, NO2 has 2 Oxygen atoms for every Nitrogen, this molecule decomposes to give more oxygen!
Please not that over 70% of atmospheric air is also Oxygen...
