I think it basically amplifies the sweet engine noise from the inline 6. It's pretty neat. The sound for me is only REALLY loud when I go WOT from a stand still. When I'm in 2nd or 3rd gear and I depress the gas pedal all the way, the induction noise isn't as great. I'm wondering if it's my exhaust that's masking the intake noise a little. Or maybe simply I can't hear it that much from inside the cabin. And, I agree, you do feel the hp freed from the factory airbox. The car really does feel more free flowing and breathing more air.
