I have a 91TT and I cannot believe you would run cheap oil in it for 170k miles. You never had to replace the turbos with that kind of care? My Z has been very reliable. I have had it for 4.5 years and put about 90k miles on it (bought it with 9k). I always use good oil and change every 3k miles. I would suspect that an M3 being normally aspirated would last longer with the same kind of care. When you add turbos into the mix you have to plan on losing "some" reliability compared to a normally aspirated car. My $.02
