Here's a stupid question. I was thinking about this when I got my 99 M3. I tried all the keys they gave me to start the car and they all worked, even the plastic one. It was my understanding the keys had a chip inside which stored some sort of code so the engine would not start without the key. How does the plastic key send/receive information since its not a conductor ? Or is it some special material that is still conductive ?
