Is when the warranty started. My m3 is a '99 but I purchased the car in November of '98, so there is one less year on my warranty than a new '99. Since the owner gets 5 or 6 cars a year and only drives each of them 2-3k miles, he could've bought the car a year ago and only driven it on 70 degree Sundays. My daily driver is a '98 Land Rover Discovery with 35k miles. I am going to purchase the 100k extended warranty from the dealership for around $1700 when I take it in for service next week. I say go for the extended warranty, you'll probably sell the car before the warranty runs out, and for 1K, it's not a bad price either. Hope this helps, and have fun with your new m3.
