: It's very easy to change the engine oil and filter on the M3. No muss, no fuss! The filter housing is located right up front and the filter lifts straight out so you don't make a mess with oil possibly dripping everywhere.

: I personally use the BMW oil filter and the BMW labeled 5W30 synthetic oil. Red Line makes great oil too, as does Amsoil IMHO. The BMW filter comes with a new filter lid gasket, a new filter shaft O-ring and a new drain plug "crush washer".

: I've never changed the transmission oil in the M3 but it's just like all other straight drive trannys with a drain plug and a filler plug. Make sure you can remove the filler plug before draining the oil. That's just in case you can't remove the filler plug, you won't be stuck with a car without tranny oil! You'll need a pump or some other means to put about 1.3 quarts into the tranny until it begins to overflow. IMO, Red Line's D4 ATF or MTL would be a good choice.

: I would suggest you change both the engine and tranny oil when warm rather than cold.

: Hope this helps. Good luck at the track.

: : I'm going to be driving at a track event next weekend and I want to change my oil and filter before the event. I have never changed it myself, so is it difficult? And what is a good filter brand and oil grade for the M3? I was thinking to go with Red Line 10W-40. And is it difficult to change transmission fluid? Thanks!
