You can still use a 1996 or newer motor in the conversion. What you will have to do though is buy a 3.2L longblock from a place like Zionsville Autosport or Vines Automotive. And then get from them the OBDI components to go with it. This will give you more power and torque than going with just a 3.0L engine and will cost about the same. There are some modifications that you will have to do to the head to get it to work with the OBDI intake manifold and Vanos but not too much needs to be done. THese issues were covered in the August issue of Bimmer magazine. This is a great conversion as one of my friends has an E30 M3 and that hauls ass around Road Atlanta. I don't even think that my supercharged M3 will touch him. But if you seriously want to do the conversion then give Jack at Vines Automotive a call and tell him that Seth Thomas told you to call him. His number is 1-800-214-4839. Then if you are looking for someone to do the conversion email me and I will give you the number for someone who is good at it.
