It almost happened to me with my kid in the car but fortunately, the pickup truck veered into the shoulder and stopped. I was stopped on a freeway off ramp but the pickup either didn't see my brake lights, hit the brakes or was too busy chatting away on his cell phone.
The M3 brakes, while they provide great stopping power for us, can also cause those who tailgate us to brake "late"since they have less time to react and their cars need more distance to stop. We may need say 100 feet to stop but others, especially heavier SUVs will definitely need more. So, what I've decided to do from now on is to drive more defensively and to brake as early as possible even though I know our beloved M can make it in less distance, just to give these tailgaters "earlier" warning.
Good luck with your repairs!
