I took my car to the dealer this morning to have my Cold-Idle problem fixed with the latest download. If anyone is interested, the latest is: Version 20.0. This download took care two things; the Cold-Idle problem and something else BMW wanted changed.
My mechanic told me since I have a new version of software that I "start from scratch" with the computer re-learning my driving style or habits. He said it takes about ten to twelve "series" of driving, with each of those series being approximately ten miles or more of driving to begin the re-learning process.
The interesting thing about this re-learning feature is this. If I drive the car like a granny during this learning phase, I'll re-learn the car's computer where it won't perform its best. However, if I drive the car very aggressively, I'll re-learn the car's computer to perform at its best.
I understand that if a car goes from being driven granny-style to aggressively, the re-learning curve will take a very, very long time! (It's similar to how the OBC computes MPG over time; a sudden change will make very little difference if a long history has already been computed.)
This is something to think about if you broke-in your own car "very gracefully" for many, many miles or if you bought a used car that you feel wasn't driven like you are presently driving the car.
