when i worked at a bmw/mb/audi dealership this summer, i had to take a dad and his son out for a test drive in a a4 1.8tq. i took the car out first and then after a little while of showing off, i pulled into a parking lot and decided to let them drive. the son couldn't drive, so i was going to drive the car home for them if they did decide to buy it. but the dad said he knew how to drive stick, so i let him behind the wheel. i asked him how long ago did he drive a manual car and he said 30 years. since it wasn't my car, i was like hell with it, let's go. he was shifting at 1500 rpms. we didn't get to 20 mph and he was in 5th. he danced through the gears up and down shifting like a mad man while not breaking that precious 20 mph barrier. finally, he said he had gotten a good feel for the car and told me to take them back. i guess common sense finally hit.
