I believe we have all heard about the BMW Recall Campaign concerning the Side Air Bags in 1997 thru 1999 M3s being too sensitive. BMW is to correct this sensitivity for all owners beginning in January with a software download.
Depending on who publishes the recall information, ie. Reuters News, AP, etc. there seems to be conflicts in the content of the report. I don't doubt there is a recall for certain M3 models but I'm not sure all models are affected.
Most of the reports say that "sedans" are the only M3 models affected. (There are no 1999 sedan model M3s! So why cover car year 1999?)
Most of the reports say the HPS "Head Protection System" is also part of the recall campaign. (The M3, regardless of model year or body style, doesn't have HPS!)
Some of the reports mention the Battery Terminal discharging upon false activation of the Side Air Bag. (The M3 doesn't have this feature!)
I guess we will see....
