If you are talking about a 99E M3 and you plan on upgrading to the E46 M3 in 3-4 years, definitely lease the car. The only exception being if it is going to be a high mileage commuter. If you lease now, the E46 will be in its 2nd or 3rd production year and will have any bugs worked out.

If you choose to buy, be aware that when the E46 comes out this year, the E36 will be harder to sell. However, if you plan on long-term ownership, then by all means buy the E36 and get used to having a smile on your face.

One last thing. IF you have your own business, don't overlook the tax advantages to leasing!
