Check out the seats in an M3/4, or M3/C or a lux model. The seats are the same seats in any E36 328i/is with sport pkg. The only difference being that the ///M seats have three small stripes in the ///M colors stitched in, just like the leather "dearth vader" seats. If you don't care about the stripes (you know the ones you can't see when you're sitting in them anyways), then you might be able to save a couple bucks by buying sport seats from a 328is. You could easily test try their fit to your bucket by finding a 328is (on a used car lot, or someone you know) and trying them. My wife and I have a 328i sport and an ///M3/2 with the 'dearth vader' seats. The seats in the 328i are definately more comfortable, especially for longer drives. Much less confining (especially in the upper seat back), but still hold your legs in there fairly well around corners. I can almost guarantee that they are exactly what you are looking for, judging by your description. You might be able to get a decent price by ordering from Bavarian Autosport ( or from (a dealer who has good prices and ships parts all over the US). Of course you could also try to find someone with an E36 coupe w/ black leather sport seats and trade with them. FYI, M3/4 or M3/C owners can't trade, cuz the Dearth Vader seats don't fit (door frame or convertible top get in the way). I'm sure some 328is or 325is or 323is owner would love a set of ///M sport seats. Watch out though, because I think those suede seats don't have power right? The 328is seats WILL have power (it was standard). Double check for the 325is. If you find a 323is (rare cuz they were only made 2 yrs '98-99) that doesn't have pwr seats, chances are they will be leatherette not leather. It might be a hunt, but you can find them. Your best bet as far as trading might be to find an M3/2 owner, who has a luxury package. They will have the seats you're looking for, and because theirs is a coupe, your seats will fit. Then again, watch out for the pwr/non-pwr issue.

-Good luck.
