My M3 is a 96 with 22k miles. So I'm pretty sure the motor is broken in.

My initial toughts are that since the car was bought from a Lexus dealership, they probably pumped-in 5w30 convential oil. Which is nice but with the M3's high compression, they stuff will evaporate or go blowing down the tail pipe.

But between you and Jim, seems like drinking 2 quarts in the last 3k miles isn' that odd.

Funny for a car without a leak.
