I think you'll find the M3's engine will use considerably more oil at higher RPMs. If you keep the engine at moderate RPMs, you'll probably find it uses very little. However if you like to "run it up", it will consume the oil. Check it often. Also, when changing the oil and filter, put in seven (7) full quarts of oil, not 6.3 quarts as specified in the owner's manual.

I changed my oil at 2,500 miles to the BMW labeled 5W40 synthetic. I have been pleased with the synthetic oil.

: Had my M3 for about 3 months now. Was traffic racing a Carrera Last night and came home.

: Got some valve clatter.

: Proceeded to check the oil. Hmmmmm...a little low.

: Wound up filling it with 2.25 quarts of Castrol-Synthetic. (Yes, I'll switch to Redline when it comes time to do the full oil change)

: Since I assume the dealer did the last oil change and might not have compensated for the filter or used like a 5-30 oil, how much oil does the M3 use between changes?

: Don't say none as my Dad's Boxster has used close to 4 quarts of oil between it's 24k mile oil changes.

: Thanks!
