them that doesn't! Seriously, based on anecdotes such as postings to these forums, the M3 engine either starts out an oil drinker, and gradually decreases it's thirst over time, or it never uses any to speak of, and never will.
Fortunately, I got the second kind. Never more than 1/2 quart between changes, and not always needed at all. I think my '97 came with the synth from the factory; in any case, I've been using BMW synthetic since 5,000 miles. It gets run to redline pretty regularly, too ;-) I've got 28,000 miles on it now, and I think I've added 1/2 quart twice in that time. And, yes, I check the oil every fill-up, just in case.

: Had my M3 for about 3 months now. Was traffic racing a Carrera Last night and came home.
: Got some valve clatter.
: Proceeded to check the oil. Hmmmmm...a little low.
: Wound up filling it with 2.25 quarts of Castrol-Synthetic. (Yes, I'll switch to Redline when it comes time to do the full oil change)
: Since I assume the dealer did the last oil change and might not have compensated for the filter or used like a 5-30 oil, how much oil does the M3 use between changes?
: Don't say none as my Dad's Boxster has used close to 4 quarts of oil between it's 24k mile oil changes.
: Thanks!
