Jon,

I purchased the non XBR version of the 36inch Vega last January. It provokes awe in anyone who sees it. I can't speak for the Mitsu - I really don't like rear projection TV, and its way too bulky to deal with. If you have to have a gigantic screen I would try to find a good deal on an LCD projector. Otherwise, the Vega is the largest tube you can buy right now, not to mention being the flattest on the market ever.
If you get the Vega 36, make sure you get some decent furniture to stick under it. I had mine on the floor for the last year because I just couldn't find something I liked. That changed yesterday, when I brought home an awesome 3 piece BellO'Getti a/v stand and twin shelf set in a rosewood tint. It really makes the Vega look imposing and its solid.

Chuck
