In Reply to: not rear shock mount - help? posted by runutz on February 07, 2000 at 22:54:21:

I found that after I replaced the shock mounts in the rear, I still had a rattling noise. In my case the noise only occured when the suspension was in a load-unload situation over uneven ground.

After a lot of head scratching, I found a sway bar bolt that was missing a washer and had become loose enough to allow the bar to "jiggle." After replacing the washer and re-tightening, the suspension is now super-tight.

By the way, in my case I had an upgraded suspension Bilstein/RD Sport shocks, sways, strut brace, etc.

Hope this helps.

: I've got this rattle coming from what sounds like the adjustable shoulder belt mechanism or maybe the door itself in a 97 m3/4. Thought it might be blown rear shock mounts but it's not. Anyone with sedan know of this noise? It occurs over most bumps and is enough to make you crazy enough to want to consider selling the best car you ever drove. Please help!
