Here's something to think about-- Which device on a car controls maximum engine (coolant) temperature? And which device controls minimum engine (coolant) temperature? The answers may surprise you. Most people think that the thermostat actually controls maximum temp, but it does not. The fan is what really controls max temp (keep in mind that I don't mean a car traveling on a highway, as the fan probably won't be spinning in that situation. Rather, I'm talking a car that's sitting at idle and fully warmed up.) So what controls minumum temp? Yup, the thermostat.
