: Hi guys,

: Quick question: Off-hand does anyone know what size socket is required for the lugs on the M3 (I've got a '95 with Contours, if it makes a difference).

As mentioned, lug bolts are 17mm

: Also, any recommendations for torque wrenches? I want to start being self sufficient when it comes to maintenance. Do I grab a 1/2 inch Craftsman or go with a "sportier" model from Ultimate Garage or Griot's Garage?

A torque wrench was the first tool I bought for my car - double-checking lug bolts at drivers schools is a good idea :-)

Anyway, I bought a MAC Tools one. My local mechanic recommended either MAC or Snap-On, and I just happened to pass the MAC truck when leaving his shop. It was ~$200.

: While I'm at it, any recommendations for good floor jacks and jack stands?

I've been using a friend's set of Lincoln jackstands; several other friends use sets from Sears (I think). They all work fine.

The jack I use is from Wal-Mart, believe it or not :-) 2-1/2 ton IIRC. I like it 'cause it's small/light enough that I can take it to the track if needed, and the saddle fits the "hockey puck" lift points and my Steve D'G jack plate *perfectly*.

Hope that helps,
Jim Bassett
