I wish I had the know how to actually tune all those things. I wouldn't know WHAT the hell I was doing. I was intimidated with the cold air instake. I think programming the engine computer would be a very difficult task.
: I'm venting a bit here so bear with me.
: RDSport's UK Site has a PR for an E36/M3 Software Upgrades. You get Software on CD and Serial Cable (to go to a PC) so you can program your ECU yourself to tune it the way you want it to be tuned or to select various performance defaults.
: I called the LA branch of RDSport this AM. YES they have this software but NO they won't sell it to the consumer but will rather sell it as a service. And the fee will be about $400.
: Maybe I'm a little self-centered but wouldn't most people prefer to tune their cars they way they want to?
: Am I the only one who feels coerced by Dinan, Turner and now RD into buying an upgrade? And then as I upgrade components, returning to the vendor for updates?
: I can think of one vendor in the japanese import arena who sells programmable ECU's and the equipment who at least will sell the updates for a more down to earth $50. And you can even download these from his website.
: On this board, is there anyone aside from JimC who has programmed their own ECU?
: No disrespect to Jim or Dinan or anybody else, but for $400 I'd rather have a CD, cable and download the info to my car instead of disassembling, driving out to, or returning like a heroin junkie for updates.
: Flames anyone? Or rather, solutions?
: How about you guys who really race those M3's? Don't tell me one ECU flash will take care of all Road Course conditions....
