The shift knobs on the E36 are removed by pulling them off. I believe the E46 shift knobs are removed the same way.

You must actually get "over" the shifter the best you can and pull with your entire body rather than jerking it with hand and arm strength only. Try to put a constant pulling pressure on it.

Be careful you don't hit yourself in the head or mouth when it does come off! Seriously...

PS - Don't try unscrewing it or you will break the inner tab of your OE shift knob that fits in the shifter's slot on top.


: Does anyone know how to REALLY get the shift knob off? I'm not getting it on my E46 328Ci. I pulled up as hard as I could and my knob won't come off. Thanks.
