I just went through this same process on my '99 m3 this past Friday. I thought about how to remove the wires, but if I ever decide to sell the car, it would probably be a better idea to leave them in. That way, if you ever want to move the Rob Knob to your new car, you can throw the old knob back on. If you do figure it out, post your findings on here because I may eventually remove the wires anyway. Good luck.
