The clunking is probably from the pads moving around. If the clips are not tight on the back of the pad (where they fit into the piston), they will rattle around. Mine did not.

As for the noise, is it like a "hum" noise? Mine did this BAD...sounded like a tuning fork. Pissed me off so much I trashed the pads!

I bought some EBC GreenStuff pads and like them a lot. Dpette has the RedStuff and they are good too, even for street.

If you decide to change pads, change rotors to. I found that when I changed pads, I would still get noise. When I changed rotors AND pads, it was gone. I tried the R4S with NEW rotors and it was still there....hence, the pads suck. With the EBC, you WILL get noise for the first 300 miles or so, then quiet and very clean running pad. I like 'em a lot, and will buy them again. Tim

: My brakes (esp. the rears) make weird
: "clunking" noises as if
: the calipers are "shifting" when I
: reverse and brake at very slow speeds.
: Also, when the car is off, and I push
: the car (in neutral),
: it sounds as if the pads are rubbing
: against the rotors.
: Is this normal? Or is this possibly
: attributed to improper installation?
:
: Despite Porterfield's "no squealing"
: guarantee, my brakes squeal like a
: bitch and there's exceptional vibration
: when I brake hard. No, I don't think this
: is ABS-related, 'cause the vibes feel
: stronger than when I braked hard with
: the stock rotors and pads.
:
: Any theories? Is it possible that the
: old pads were removed & inadvertently
: installed on my car?
:
: Please help!!! TIA
