Good advise, I ended up with Stage V on my car last Friday. The car feels Hyperactive....sounds different, instead of just hearing the CAI out of the front left of the car, you can really hear the whole engine roar. I can definetly feel more midrange power. I am moving up to Springfield Mass this week. Never driven in the snow before...everyone is telling me that I need to buy a beater for the winter.

: Paul and Greg have some good observations and advice for you and I will build on that.

: Stage 1, basic performance software to improve performance and hp gain.

: Stage 2, improved performance software to optimize the Dinan carbon fiber intake and K & N filter for additional performance and hp gains.

: Stage 3, software to optimize the euro HFM for additional performance and hp gains through top end.

: Stage 4, software to optimize the bored out larger throttle body for additional performance and hp gains for a quicker throttle response and quicker acceleration with some performance improvement through top end.

: Stage 5 software to optimize the Schrick manifold intake for additional perfromance and gains at mid range through top,top end. My 97 M3 continued to pull at 152 mph, when I ran out of road.

: I suspect all the top tier aftermarket flow thru exhausts perform alike, but not necessarly sound alike.

: Dinan SC performance software is completely different then the above software.

: The Dinan website may not be up todate. You can call Knauz BMW, Kevin Hale, Dinan and performance specialist, his direct line is 847.283.6742.

: : : First off you can visit www.dinanbmw.com and find out a bit there. To summarize

: : : Stage 1-3 are documented in their catalog
: : : Stage 1, Standard Software upgrade for additional 8-10 HP I think.
: : : Stage 2, You need this when you purchase the Cold Air Intake system. With the Intake Stage 2 software Yields an additional 20 HP. Some people will argue Dinan's Claims to real world #'s but I felt a difference.

: : : Stage 3 I haven't done myself but is used when You add the Bored out Throttle Body. I believe you also need to add the Euro HFM. With Stage 3 software and the Cold Air Intake, Euro HFM, Bored out Throttle Body and Exhaust Dinan Claims 38 additional Horsepower. I user recently posted some G-Tech findings that showed the claims of 38 horsepower with a stage 3 system are accurate.

: : : I believe Dinan's HP #'s include their exhaust from stage 1 to 3. However I believe there was a user here who ONLY did Stage 2 with The CAI and no aftermarket exhaust and noticed the 20 HP increase. I have the Exhaust so I'm not speaking first hand on this one.

: : : I'm not too Familiar with Stage 4 and 5. I do know Stage 5 incorporates the Schrick Intake. I'm not too sure what Stage 4 is all about (Part of me thinks its the software upgrade for Supercharge users with the bored out thottle Body but I could be completly WRONG on that one)

: : This is not exactly true...I have the Dinan brochure here and, for the M3, what they state is that the software alone provides a peak gain of 10 hp, and the CAI proives a peak gain of 12 hp. But, since they only use the CAI WITH the SW, presumably, that 12 hp is WITH THE SW, so its not cumulative. Its certainly NOT being listed as an additional 20 as you say...The most you might be able to assume from Dinan's listing is an additional 12, added to the 10 hp of the SW. However, we've learned that these things generally are NOT cumulative. However, after having had both , before my SC, I can tell you I definitely felt the mods. My guesstimate is some where between 15 and 20 hp for the combo of the two.
