I have a '99 323ic and do not regret getting the car one bit. The ride quality is excellent but a bit noiser w/ the soft top. I do not have a hard top but imagine that would make it quite a bit quieter.

I also have a close friend that has had a '94 that got stolen (broke window) and now a '96 to replace the stolen '94. She has not had any problems with the top just the usual rotors wearing out and need replacing.

As far as M3 performance, if you are coming out of a performance car you will enjoy the handling and steering response of the BMW but unless it is an M you will not have the power. Don't get me wrong, there is power in the other cars it is just a bit more refined. I traded my 3000GTSL and miss the brute power some days, but then I put the top down and forget about it.

The insurance is not too bad at all. For me it was only about $20 a month more than my 3000.

I would suggest getting one with an alarm (my friends' '94 did not have one, she had lojack put on her '96.
