Another thing: If the chip was reprogrammed to work with the intake, what will happen if you add an aftermarket exhaust, etc. Wouldn't this defeat the purpose of the reprogrammed chip in the first place?
: Euro HFM is bigger, by nearly .5" in diameter. This allows for MORE airflow, and thus, you can add more fuel and get more power.
: As for the best set-up....well, that is all opinion. According to an expert in the field (to remain annoymous), the BPG dyno test was flawed, and they know it. Now, on to my opinon.
: I have the Jim C. intake with euro HFM on my 95 M3. I like it, it has great power and an awesome sound. I recently installed the stock intake to compare....WHAT A DIFFERENCE. Car feels like a goat pulling a cart without the euro hfm, chip, etc.
: I would imagine that both are similar. HOWEVER, it is up to you whom to trust with your money. That is all I will say about that!
: I have seen a ECIS product. It was a prototype and sent to me for evaluation. It was NOT the ECIS intake you are talking about, so I cannot directly compare the two. However, I would ASSUME that the materials used ionthe ECIS intake shield is the same as the one I tested. Maybe not. But here is my impression.
: The ECIS protoype was thicker than the Jim C. and appeared on the surface, to transfer less heat. Although I doubt radiant heat would raise the temp in the "shielded area" much anywayz, so that is probably a moot point.
: The Jim C. shield seemed to be a more flexible material, but could crack/rip it abused. but once it is in, it would be fine. The ECIS was thicker, and less bendable. It also appeard to have a metal core inbetween the layers. Good, bad, I dunno.
: I think each shield it probably of equal overall results...that would be to keep out the hot air and fan wash.
: The question comes down to this (for me). WHERE and WHO makes the software? I know that Jim was the FIRST to crack the Motronic Code and thus has the most experience with it. That is why I bought his kit/software. I have no idea where Sean (ECIS) gets his. I heard that Jim will not sell his software to ECIS. Maybe ECIS provides you with another chip. I don't know...ask!
: Hopefully I helped out a bit. I have heard rave reviews from people with ECIS and Jim C kits.
: I will tell you this diffinatively. IF you have a 95 M3 (read: 95!), definately get the EURO hfm kit. The power increase is awesome, and you will kill "chipped" 96+ M3's...I do!
: Good luck, Tim
: : Whats the difference? I see the one that was tested by BPG was a non euro version. This would lead me to believe that the non euro is better???? So the best set up is a CAIw/shield, HFM from somewhere, and chip?
