My '99 M3 presently has about 6,800 miles on it. I changed the oil and filter at 2,000 miles, again at 4,500 miles and will again at 7,500 miles.

I didn't add any oil before the 2,000 mile change. Between the 2,000 mile and 4,500 mile change I added about half a quart. Since the 4,500 mile change (2,300 miles) I have used about half a quart which is the same amount of consumption and mileage as was used between the 2,000 and 4,500 change.

I might add that the first 2,000 miles I treated the car very easy for break-in purposes. I also changed to the BMW "labeled" 5W40 synthetic oil at the first change.

I really don't expect the consumption to change all that much as time goes by. I really don't care either! I check the oil level often and change the oil often too. As long as the oil consumption remains close to what it is now, I have no problem with it.

I hope this answers your question.
