Seems to me that's the question you have to answer. You will always get more from a private party than you will from a dealer. All of the cars you mentioned are depreciating, including the one you own now, so figure out if you will get $X worth of enjoyment out the new car in the next Y months and work through all the options.

Trade at the valuation you got, or not, but whatever you do-- never forget that with a dealer (unlike with a private party) you will always have more options when it comes to sweetening a deal for the car you want. Thats what dealers are for-- tacking on the extras to your warranty, options to the car, etc.

Also-- if you choose to go that way, remember to get everything in writing!
