I was behind a mildly tuned SLC at the light in a left turn lane one day. (SLC are basically the equivalant of a GTI VR6)

At the green, he punches it and I follow him through 1 car length back (safety reasons). Even with a head start, I'd reeled him in at the end of 1st gear, and had to let off the throttle in 2nd to avoid driving right up his tail pipe.

My car was only chipped at the time (Jim C).

If you know how to launch, you will eat him for breakfast.

Even on a rolling start, you shouldn't have a problem getting him behind you.
