All,
FWIW: I'll be autocrossing my M3, and have decided to use the stock wheels for autocrossing and buy a second set of wheels / tires for street use. After chatting with Dinan and an M3 owner at Tirerack, I've gone with:

* Autocross: stock 17x7.5 & 17x8.5 wheels, Hoosier 225/45-17 and 245/40-17 R3S03 race tires. 8.5" front wheels would offer a traction advantage, but I'd have to buy an additional set of stock wheels.

* Street: 18x8 SSR Integral (polished) with 235/35-18 Pilot Sports on all 4 corners. Another good option would have been BBS RK 1-pc 18x8.5 with 245/35-18s. Both of these wheel types are 18 lbs each.

I'll let everyone know how these choices work out. Comments / criticisms / questions welcome.

Cheers,
Ben
