If you read between the lines of what they're saying, it's "you have to rev the hell out of the engine to get good power". A torque peak of 4,900 RPM is fine for a track car, but it's going to be suboptimal for a street vehicle, and terrible for anything with an automatic transmission. Couple that with the rumored 440 lbs of additional weight the E46 will carry, and my supercharged E36 is sounding better and better...

It'll be interesting to see what the actual road tests conclude.
