Jim obviously learned what he knows through much practice and trial and error research to gain his knowledge about our BMW engines. With that being said, I beleive we must put full trust in what he says not only because of his proven accomplishments but simply because we don't have the talent, the equipment, the time or the where-with-all to dispute, debate or argue against anything Jim says.
It's like taking sides against a chief surgeon concerning a difficult medical procedure when you don't know anything about the subject or procedure except for what you're told by others that have no true understanding about it either. Would we want this qualified surgeon to perform the operation or someone that never spent a day in his life in an operation room except maybe as a patient?
Jim has proven himself and must continue to do so in the future to keep his reputation at the highest of marks. If there comes a time when Jim faulters, then he should be questioned. Jim wants to be 100% accurate on what he says and has been batting 1000 on his products. That's a pretty good history! We need to put trust in his knowledge and his judgement.
History means a lot. The future will forever tell what tomorrow's history was.
