I would also change the thermostat and the the housing that it sits in. The thermostat housing is plastic as well, and they now make a metal one that is not expensive. Both Active Autowerks and Motor Works West sell the housing and the thermostat. Just more insurance...

: Last night I was driving my 8/95 M3 and all of a sudden the temp gauge was in the red. I immediately turned it off to prevent any damage (hopefully).

: I had it towed to the dealership last night for a night drop off.

: I am wondering what the problem could be? The coolant level is fine, but I can definitely hear a sound from the engine that is not normal. Plastic Water impeller? Any insight is appreciated.
