: My '98 M3 with only 22,000 miles has a very bad slipping clutch. I bought the car at 14,000 miles and I can't imagine how a clutch can go bad so soon. I know how to drive and I know that the car was slipping when I got it - I just didn't realize it since it was my first M car and it was so powerful I didn't recognize the slippage for the power (the ol' trees for the forest trick!) Anyway, I am taking her in for the dealer to look at and they have to drop the tranny etc. - luckily she is still under warranty! Supposedly the maintenance guy will look at her and find out what caused the clutch wear - how can they tell? Also, if it was caused by the previous owner, what can I do about that? I have the Cert Pre-Owned 6 year/100,000 mi warranty, shouldn't they have inspected the clutch during that certification? How can a clutch go bad so soon? Is there a hydraulic problem? Perhaps there is oil leaking onto the clutch and making 'seem' like it is slipping? What gives!!
