There was never a recall on this. That would be very expensive for BMW. Pump failure is covered under warranty if it fails while you're under warranty, but after warranty period you're on your own. BMW will NOT pay to replace plastic impeller pump that has not failed (even if you're still under warranty). Instead, they told their service people about these expected failures (through a TSB I believe) and about the new metal impeller pump. Many sources used up their existing stock of plastic impeller pumps rather than trashing them. My mechanic says some dealers and others would replace one plastic impeller pump that failed with another plastic one, because they had to use up their supply of them.
