Agree....I don't like mechanics messing with the engine especially with small things I can do myself. Besides the oil I put in the engine is much better than the bulk oil the BMW dealers are supplied with. Just keep good records.

: Federal law prohibits making a warranty's validity contingent on giving the seller additional business. They can make you do stuff (i.e., maintenance)to keep warrranty but can't force you to buy the goods/services from them. Keep records of dates you did the work and receipts for oil and filter and whatever maintenance items you replace. If you didn't keep records, they could void warranty on basis that you have no proof the work was done.

: : Well, I talked to the dealer today, and through the topic of the conversation, the dealer guy tells me. By changing my own oil, I will null/void my warranty on my car. So I chuckle laugh and walk away believing that he is talking a load of crap.

: : So I call BMW NA today and they tell me that yes, by personally changing my oil, I run the risk of null/voiding the warranty on my car?

: : Is this true? I know it can't be or else nobody would be changing their oil on their own. I know they sell those devices that reset the lights when you do it yourself, but supposedly that voids the warranty too.

: : What am I going to do?
