: I added half quart before the first oil change, another half quart before the second. Thereafter, I have needed to add about a half quart but the mileage increased from 1,000 miles and 1,500 miles for the first two changes respectively to 2,500 miles between changes. I only have about 500 miles on the 0W-30 Amsoil but I have checked it and it appears to be still at the original filled mark.
: I've been using Mobil 1 0W-30 in a Toyota V6 Camry and it never uses any noticeable oil. There is no reason why it should use any more! I'm using the BMW 5W-30 in the '00 328i and it's not using any oil either. Again, there is no reason why it should use oil.

: : Just thought I'd kill some time with these observances:
: : 1996-M3 Luxo Coupe
: : 19k miles
: : -car drank about a quart every week
: : -problem, leaky valve cover gasket (leaks from rear of valve)
: : 23k miles
: : -changed oil to Castrol 5w-50
: : -average oil consumption of one quart every 2 weeks
: : 26k miles
: : -changed oil to Mobil 1/15w-50 and filter
: : -ran Laguna Seca all day at redline, no oil use
: : -drove the length of the USA and back (CA to SC to FL to CA), 7k miles, drank 1 quart of oil the entire trip
: : 33k miles
: : -changed oil to Mobil 1/5w-30 and filter
: : -no oil consumption at all in last 1.5k miles
: :
: : I don't know, but running the lighter weight oil has dramatically changed oil consumption and the general smoothness of the car.
: : I reread BOB//M3's advice on Amsoil 0w-30. Seems good from a lubrication/protection point of view. How's the oil consumption on your end Bob?
: : I state these things as some M3 owners have cars that drink a quart anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5k between oil changes. And some of you guys have no issues whatsoever.
: : Seems my car loves the factory rec. 5w-30.
