: If you keep a detailed log book of everything you do on the car (including a file of all receipts that are dated) you'll be OK. BMW poarts dept receipts are a plus. But the log must be detailed. Miles and date for every entry. Everthing that is done to the car (including tire pressure changes, wax jobs etc) must be entered in the logbook. My dealer said this is acceptable to their warranty. A complete, accurate logbook will also add to the value of the car at sale time.

: BUT---Why not take advantage of the BMW free oil changes at the prescribed intervals. They stamp your book too.

: : Well, I talked to the dealer today, and through the topic of the conversation, the dealer guy tells me. By changing my own oil, I will null/void my warranty on my car. So I chuckle laugh and walk away believing that he is talking a load of crap.

: : So I call BMW NA today and they tell me that yes, by personally changing my oil, I run the risk of null/voiding the warranty on my car?

: : Is this true? I know it can't be or else nobody would be changing their oil on their own. I know they sell those devices that reset the lights when you do it yourself, but supposedly that voids the warranty too.

: : What am I going to do?
