Several people have mentioned the Vanos noise. Fixes include turning the Vanos gear to replacing the whole unit.

I have a 95 do not hear any strange vanos noises. If it does not bother you, I wouldn't worry about it.

The computer, from what I have read, does not report a vanos error. I am sure someone on the board, that has experienced this, can shed some light on it.

If the new alternator also indicates a low voltage, it wasn't the problem.

If you have an aftermarket warranty, BMW couldn't care less what you jammed in your car. The aftermarket company will pick up the tab.

: well the battery was dead when It was brought in, and the alternator was tested and showed low output. The battery I have to pay for but my 3rd party Warranty covers the alternator and practically everything under the hood... so they say. The vanos would be covered but the shop said the vanos was making a weird noise... I checked the archives and as I understand it the Vanos on 95 M3 tend to make some noise... but anyways I might have it towed out if I feel the guy is going on wild goose chase... I don't want to bring it to dealer just yet cuz it has the JC kit in it and I don't know how the dealer would react... I want to get it running and pull off all the mods before a dealer checks under the hood...
