A bad EWS unit will result in a no start situation. Often the problem with this unit is the ring antenna. It is not hard to replace IF it is at fault. Many units however malfunction simply because the key is dirty or deformed and does not allow a clear interface with the antenna ring. The "ring" is in turn linked to a transponder and therby a computer. These units are generally not at fault.
