'Over-inflation' is a relative term, as different tires behave differnently over time at different pressures. If you run your street tires over 40 psi, you MAY notice all the wear occur in the center of the tread, while the outer edges are still fresh. Of course, like I mentioned before.. it depends on the tire. Many r-compunds, for instance are designed to deliever max grip at 40-45 psi. and wear properly at this setting.

If you want to get all the life out of them, I'd consider dropping the pressures down to 34-37. Check regularly for even wear.
