: My BMW technician replaced the life-time transmission fluid in my '99 M3 at about 2,000 miles with Redline's D4 ATF. I supplied the new fluid and BMW took care of the labor cost.

: This is a BMW accepted practice for anyone that complains that shifting is too hard in colder weather. I had mine changed in October of 1999 at the suggestion of the BMW techician even though the weather was only starting to get cool and I had no real problems with stiffness before warm-up.

: Immediately after getting the fluid change I noticed easier shifting at all times particularly before warm-up.

: I did not replace the differential oil as I'm still using the original BMW fill.

: I have used Redline's products before and have been very pleased with all of them. I was most familar with their various MTL products for transaxles, their engine oils and their coolant additive called Water Wetter.

: To answer your question, I would consider the change not only a safe and fully endorsed change but also an appropriate change.

: : Just checking, however, would like to know how many M owners have replaced the "lifetime" lubricants in their transmission and differentials with Redline. I can feel a very slight difference in shifting ease. Is this move safe? Thanks.

Thanks for the response, I will be going with Redline from engine to diff. Cheers and I agree with the easier shifting advantage.
