After driving the IS300 at an autocross event like yourself, I feel the IS300 is not and never will be competition for the E36 m3. The IS300 feels so much softer suspension wise. The E36 feels like a mild race car compared to the IS300. Power wise, the M3 kills the IS300. I am not comparing the IS300 auto to a M3 manual. I have driven a friends 97 M3 sedan in auto and that car is much quicker than the IS300, even though it doesn't have the sportshift like manual option that the IS300 has. As far as braking goes, I thought the M3's brakes were a little bit more powerful than the IS300's, but the IS300's did show good control. Style wise.. in my opinion, the M3 is the hands down winner. Sure the design may be 7 or 8 years old, but everytime I take my 97 Dakar Yellow M3(5 speed)out, I get plenty of stares. So in conclusion, I feel the IS300 will be a very good competitor for the 330i that is coming out soon, but please don't say that it will compete with the m3.
