: I'm want to purchase a used M3 but need to know more about them. What is in the sport package? What years was it available? Was it ever standard? I drove a '97 four door that had the red and blue emblems on the seats but the sport package was not listed on the original window sticker. I also drove a '95 and it seemed quite different. The '97 four door had more torque and softer suspension The '95 felt like it had lower stiffer suspension. Are these differences typical? Can someone explain the year model and sport package variations or direct me to a resource for such info.

On other 3's the sport pkg refers to seats with thigh extension, different wheels, and maybe something different in the suspension. I don't know of a sport option on a 95 or 97 M3 coupe.

I compared a sedan to a coupe, and I had the impression that the sedan was a bit less agile. The bmw used car mgr suggested that was indeed true, and pointed to the supposed fact that bmw racing does not race the sedans (opinions?)

I think the engines and torque are the same, but the sedan is about an inch taller to accommodate the doors, I think. So, it might feel a bit different in turns, but I imagine most people wouldn't notice.

The sedan does not come with the Vader seats. However the sedan seats do come with the thigh extension... sport? I don't know.

Is it possible too, that the 95 had an upgraded suspenesion from the previous owner?

I know of a good deal on a 97 red/black M3 sedan, in Nashville TN. e-mail me if interested.
