If you look in the BMW Original Accessories Catalog, you'll see the Electronic Cruise Control kit for the E36 318i/is/ti. There are two versions available-one for the sedan & coupe, and one for the ti hatch. I'm sure you can make it work for an M3 if you're bold enough. (I've always enjoyed a challenge) The kit, unfortunately, retails for $593. But you can buy this kit mail order from some BMW dealers for up to around 25-30% off list. Try Pacific BMW, South BMW, etc.

Part# for E36 318i/is 65 71 9 401 631
Part# for E36 318ti 65 71 1 469 707

again, both retail for $593

I'm pretty sure you'll want the first one if you should decide to accept this mission.

Good luck!
