i put polk dbs 5.25 in the front and some full range in the back for fill. i put a box in the trunk (2 10" powered by a punch amp) and i am about to change the stock amp in my car to a phoenix gold 4 channel amp. I think the subs are the biggest improvement, the speakers are kind of important if you play your music loud. Sony has a really nice line called the Xplod series for someone on a budget. Go with components in the front to seperate the sound better. I suggest going to circuit city and buying the performance plan so that if you the speakers can blown or rattle you take it back and they fix it/replace it for free. I go back every 2-3 years and get new speakers and a new performance plan, they refund me the money for the old speakers and pro-rate the performance plan, this is really nice if you buy expensive speakers.
