Yes, by changing the leverage, force required goes up.

The question is about the binding and off-axis forces caused by changing the Y-axis position of the lower pivot and the relationship of the selector rod's input angle to additional force felt through the shifter. The ERK device corrects the angle to a better position even than stock in the M3.

: I assume that your short throw kit has a variable throw ratio that peaks out at neutral in the center between gears. This would mean that the amount of throw between the leading edge of the synchronizers is greatly reduced, but the amount of gear lever movement from when the synchronizer is first engaged to when the gear is fully seated is approximately the same as stock. If your short throw kit has a constant throw reduction throughout the travel from one gear to the next (when compared to the stock setup), then the force required to mesh the gears will go up in proportion to the amount of throw reduction.
